Description
Growing traceable, high-quality cotton in closed hydroponic systems and delivering a fully audited supply chain to French and Italian luxury mills—reducing water use and guaranteeing ethical labour while producing fibres suited to premium fabrics.
Problem
Luxury textile supply chains need fibre quality, traceability and credible environmental and labour evidence. Conventional cotton can involve high water demand and long, opaque supply chains, while European hydroponic production remains agronomically and economically unproven.
Our idea
Develop closed hydroponic cotton trials in Europe and connect agronomy, fibre testing and chain-of-custody requirements from seed to premium mill. Resource use and labour conditions would be measured alongside textile quality.
Expected results
Validated crop protocols, fibre-quality results, measured water and energy demand, a preliminary production cost model and an auditable route to mills and brands.
Current status
The project is at pilot-concept stage. Cultivar choice, system design, fibre specifications and commercial acceptance must be tested with textile partners.
